A Closer Look at What BYD Showed in Bangkok
Thailand's ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week ran from July 1 to 3 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok. BYD Energy Storage showed up with two main product lines: the large-scale Haohan system and a pair of residential batteries called the Battery-Box LV5.0+ and Battery-Box HVE. Dr. Veerapat Kiatfuengfoo, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Thailand's Ministry of Energy, stopped by the BYD booth to check out both the big and small setups. He said he was impressed by what he saw.
The Big One: BYD Haohan Utility Scale System
The Haohan runs on what BYD calls the world's largest mass produced 2710Ah blade battery built specifically for energy storage. That gives it more than three times the capacity of conventional products. The smallest system unit starts at 14.5 MWh with a volumetric energy density of 233.8 kWh per cubic meter, which is about 51 percent better than the industry average. The enclosure carries an IP66 rating, meaning it can handle the heat, humidity and rain that Southeast Asia throws at it.
The Small One: Battery Box LV5.0+ Low Voltage Residential
This one pairs with BYD's Power-Box low voltage inverter to create the company's first all in one low voltage home storage solution. The modular design lets users scale from 5.12 kWh all the way up to 163.84 kWh. It supports up to 1C charge and discharge rates and allows 100 percent depth of discharge, so it works well for homes that need frequent high power cycles. Installation is simpler too thanks to quick connect wiring and one touch auto commissioning. It also plays nice with most major inverter brands.
Another Small One: Battery Box HVE High Voltage Residential
The HVE is BYD's high voltage option for homes. It measures only 140 mm thick, making it one of the slimmer options on the market. Users can mount it on the wall or set it on the floor depending on available space. Capacity modules come in 4.2 kWh and 6.4 kWh sizes, and you can connect up to three towers in parallel for a total of 70.74 kWh. BYD backs it with a 15 year warranty. When paired with the Power-Box high voltage inverter, it becomes a complete home energy package.
BYD's Bigger Picture
BYD talked up its full stack in house capabilities covering what it calls the three Cs cells, power chips and AI computing chips plus the three Ss BESS, PCS and EMS. The company says it controls everything from raw materials to final assembly and mass production. It wants to be seen not just as a hardware supplier but as a long term value partner that helps customers get the most out of their storage assets over the full lifecycle. The message coming out of Bangkok was clear: BYD is pushing hard to speed up the green energy shift across Southeast Asia and beyond.
