Another Major Middle East Win for BYD
Just a few months after landing a 12.5GWh grid storage contract in Saudi Arabia, BYD Energy Storage has done it again. The company signed an 11.275GWh cooperation agreement with Masdar, the Abu Dhabi based renewable energy developer, to supply storage for the landmark RTC project.
What Is the RTC Project
RTC stands for Round The Clock. Located in Abu Dhabi, it is the world's first GW scale round the clock renewable energy project. Masdar and the Emirates Water and Electricity Company are developing it together. It combines solar panels with battery storage to deliver clean power 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Once fully operational it will produce stable GW level baseload output at competitive electricity prices. That has never been done before at this scale.
BYD Haohan System Will Do the Heavy Lifting
BYD will deploy its Haohan energy storage system for this project. The goal is to solve solar intermittency, maintain stable output, strengthen the grid, and support the UAE's energy transition.
Ultra Powerful Cells for Nonstop Supply
The Haohan runs on BYD's world largest 2710Ah dedicated prismatic blade battery built specifically for energy storage. Single cell capacity is more than 300 percent higher than conventional products. Battery management system complexity drops by 70 to 80 percent, which boosts reliability significantly. This setup ensures safe long life operation and maximizes value over the system's lifetime.
Simple Design Cleaner Station Layout
BYD Haohan uses a super integrated ultra high capacity design. The smallest unit hits 14.5MWh, the highest in the industry. It achieves 10MWh within an equivalent 20 foot container footprint. Fewer containers mean less land needed and easier management. The whole station looks cleaner, safer, and more modern.
H3 Built for Desert Conditions
The system operates reliably from minus 30 degrees Celsius up to 55 degrees Celsius. For the Middle East's intense heat, dry air, and sandstorms, it carries an IP66 rating, the highest full machine protection level in the industry. That means dust protection, wind sand resistance, and high temperature endurance are all covered.
Smart Controls for Better Operation
BYD also brings its own GC Master EMS to the table. The system can access millions of data points, 25 percent more than top tier industry systems. Computing power is over 400 percent higher, capable of managing more than 15GWh per single station. It does real time data analysis, precise device scheduling, safety warnings, and equipment health checks. All of that adds up to better operation and maintenance over the full lifecycle.
What This Means Going Forward
This deal cements BYD's position in the Middle East energy storage market. The RTC project sets a new global benchmark and proves that round the clock renewable power at GW scale is achievable. Other regions can replicate this model as demand for clean, secure, and continuous electricity keeps growing worldwide.
